Я, конечно, не спец по переводам. Но предлагаю чуть подкорректировать последний вариант: им будет так не хватать этого сражения - а нам так будет не хватать их.
 
Мне кажется что слово "это", в указанном выше варианте несет смысловую нагрузку контраргументации, а исходя из контекста Гарак и О'Брайн просто делятся мнениями, а не спорят.
